Fried Shrimp

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) raw shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice)

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or cornmeal

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • Vegetable oil for frying

  • Ketchup or dipping sauce (optional)

  • Lemon slices for garnish

Method:

  1. Soak the shrimp in buttermilk for 20–30 minutes.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

  3. Remove shrimp from the buttermilk and coat them well in the dry mixture.

  4. Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).

  5. Fry shrimp in small batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.

  6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with lemon and dipping sauce.
