
🥖 Portuguese-Style Rolls (Papo Secos)
🔪 Instructions:
1. Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
- Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
2. First Rise
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
3. Shape the Rolls
- Punch down dough and divide into 8 equal pieces.
- Shape each into a ball, then flatten slightly and pinch the center to create a crease.
- Place seam-side down on a floured baking sheet.
4. Second Rise
- Cover and let rise for another 45 minutes.
5. Bake
- Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
- Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Optional: Spray with water before baking for extra crustiness.
🍽️ Serving Ideas:
- Fill with grilled chouriço, cheese, or marinated pork (bifana-style)
- Serve alongside caldo verde or feijoada
- Toast and spread with butter and jam for breakfast
