
🥘 Caçoila – Portuguese Stewed Beef
👨🍳 Instructions:
- Marinate the Beef Coat beef chunks with crushed red pepper and refrigerate overnight.
- Layer the Aromatics In a Dutch oven, scatter onion, parsley, garlic, and bay leaves. Wrap allspice and cloves in cheesecloth or a tea ball and add to the pot.
- Add the Beef & Sauce Place beef on top, dot with lard or butter. Mix wine, tomato paste, and cinnamon, then pour over the beef.
- Slow Cook Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer. Cover and cook for 3 to 3½ hours, turning occasionally.
- For a stew-like texture: keep the lid on.
- For a thicker, glaze-like sauce: remove the lid halfway through.
- Finish & Serve Remove bay leaves and spice pouch. Serve hot with potatoes, peppers, and greens.
