Greek Pastitsio

🇬🇷 Ingredients

Pasta Layer:

  • 450g bucatini or penne pasta
  • 2 egg whites
  • 110g crumbled feta cheese

Meat Sauce:

  • 900g lean ground beef
  • 2 medium red onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 400g canned tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 150ml red wine
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 whole clove
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for sautéing

Béchamel Sauce:

  • 120g butter
  • 120g plain flour
  • 1 liter warm milk
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 50g grated Kefalotyri cheese (or Parmesan)
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
