- Make the Sauce
- In a saucepan, heat olive oil and sauté garlic and onion until golden.
- Add beer and simmer for 5 minutes to evaporate alcohol.
- Stir in tomato sauce, beef broth, port wine, butter, and piri piri.
- Slowly whisk in cornstarch to thicken. Simmer until smooth and velvety.
- Prepare the Meats
- Cook beef strips with salt and pepper. Grill or pan-fry linguiças.
- Assemble the Sandwich
- Use 4 slices of bread per sandwich. Hollow out two slices for filling.
- Layer with ham, beef, and linguiça. Top with remaining bread slices.
- Cover with cheese and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 5 minutes until melted.
- Serve
- Pour hot sauce generously over the sandwich.
- Traditionally served with French fries and optionally topped with a fried egg.
