
Easy Homemade White Bread

- Activate the yeast
- In a large bowl, dissolve 2 tablespoons of sugar in warm water. Stir in yeast and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix the dough
- Add remaining sugar, salt, and oil. Stir in flour one cup at a time until dough pulls away from the bowl but remains slightly sticky.
- Knead
- Knead for 7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- Shape and rise again
- Punch down dough, divide in half, and shape into loaves. Place in greased 9×5-inch pans. Let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–40 minutes until golden. Brush tops with butter while warm.
