🍞 Biscuits and Gravy

🧂 Ingredients:

For the Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold butter, cubed

  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tsp vinegar)

For the Sausage Gravy:

  • ½ lb (225g) breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)

  • 2 tbsp butter (if needed)

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 cups milk

  • Salt & black pepper to taste


👨‍🍳 Method:

🔸 Make the Biscuits:

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Cut in the cold butter using a fork or your fingers until crumbly.

  4. Add buttermilk and mix just until combined.

  5. Turn dough onto a floured surface and fold a few times. Flatten to 1-inch thick.

  6. Cut into rounds and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden.

🔸 Make the Gravy:

  1. In a skillet, cook sausage until browned. Do not drain the fat unless excessive.

  2. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.

  3. Slowly add milk, stirring constantly until thickened (about 5–7 minutes).

  4. Season with salt and a lot of black pepper (to taste).
