👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Activate the yeast In a small bowl, mix warm milk, 1 tbsp sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the dough In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, salt, lemon zest, and vanilla. Add eggs, melted butter, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1½ to 2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the bread Punch down the dough and shape into a round loaf or braid. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Second rise Cover and let rise again for 45 minutes.
  7. Brush & bake Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush the loaf with egg wash and bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool & serve Let cool before slicing. Enjoy with butter, jam, or just as it is!
