
Traditional Portuguese Octopus Rice Recipe

- Cook the Octopus Place the octopus and small onion in a pot with water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 45 minutes until tender. Remove octopus and reserve the cooking water. Cut octopus into bite-sized pieces.
- Prepare the Base In a large pan, sauté chopped onion and garlic in olive oil. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they break down and form a sauce.
- Add Rice and Octopus Stir in the rice and octopus pieces. Season with salt and pepper. Add about 2 cups of the reserved octopus broth.
- Simmer Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cook for 12–15 minutes until rice is tender and creamy.
- Finish and Serve Sprinkle with chopped coriander and serve hot.
